Bridging the Gap
Between Vision and Reality
At Humankind we believe that successful urban transformation happens where the built environment meets human needs and wishes. We have worked across diverse global contexts to bring visionary mobility projects to life, consistently proving that the most effective changes are those that put people at the very center of the process.

Mastering Urban Mobility Change is not just a theoretical overview; it is a distillation of Humankind’s hands-on experience in navigating the complex intersection of spatial design and social dynamics. We understand that moving from a car-centric model to a human-centric one requires more than just infrastructure, it demands a shift in mindset, a robust methodology, and the ability to facilitate genuine dialogue.

In this course, we share the frameworks and methodologies that have helped cities understand, drive, and accelerate urban change.
Whether you are an urban planner, a city maker or a municipal worker, this course equips you with the practical lens needed to turn ambitious mobility goals into tangible, people-first realities. Join us to unlock the methodologies that make urban change stick.

Course Structure

Session 1
Introduction & Assumption Mapping
Tuesday 26 May | 15:00 – 17:30 CET
Kick off the journey by unpacking the invisible barriers that often stall urban projects. We begin with introductions and a deep dive into the case study of car-centric cities. The core of this session is a collaborative Assumption Mapping exercise where you and your peers will surface hidden beliefs about mobility, safety, and public space. By the end, you will have a clear map of the organizational and personal obstacles standing in the way of your specific project, setting a realistic foundation for the weeks ahead.
Skills you will learn

Assumption Mapping
Learn to identify and surface the hidden beliefs and fears that cause resistance to change within your team and organization, allowing you to address them head-on before they derail your project.

Theory of Change Mastery
Gain the ability to construct robust logical frameworks that clearly articulate how your activities lead to desired outcomes, providing the clarity needed to align stakeholders and secure support.

Citizen-Centered Research
Develop the capacity to design and execute effective observation and interview strategies that uncover the true lived experiences of residents, turning anecdotal complaints into actionable data.

Tactical Urbanism Execution
Acquire the practical know-how to select and deploy low-cost, high-impact street experiments that test ideas quickly, demonstrate value, and build momentum for larger permanent changes.

Implementation Roadmapping
Build the skill to synthesize research, theory, and tactical ideas into a concrete, step-by-step action plan that moves your mobility vision from concept to reality.
