Brede Welvaart in Beweging
What does a radically human-centred approach mean for mobility?
Can mobility be a means to broad welfare, and if so, how? How can we design a mobility system that is more human? What are the blind spots that we are missing out on? And how does the way we think of movement change, when we look at them?
Brede Welvaart in Beweging was a creative workshop developed by Humankind in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management for the Mission Days of the 2026 Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.
Drawing from citizen experience, performance arts and speculative thinking, the three-hour workshop unpacked the concept of human-centric design in mobility through group world-building activities, speculative narrative exercises, improvisation theatre performances and a collective debate.
The session was aimed at thinkers, practitioners of different backgrounds and policy-makers of any field interested in the human experience within the mobility system. From system and social designers to senior project managers in different levels of government, the group of 20 participants was as heterogeneous as the theme allowed for.
The workshop was conceived by Humankind and facilitated in collaboration with Iris Casteren van Cattenburch from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Innovation Team of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and professional improvisation actors Amy Beekmans, Dineke van Loon, Richard Roling and Sanne van Vugt.
Brede Welvaart in Beweging feeds into ongoing work by Humankind and the Ministry of Infrastructure on broad welfare within the mobility system, a project aimed at creating a mental shift in the way we plan the future of movement in The Netherlands and beyond.
