National Walking Congress
Walking in Rotterdam through the lens of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
In September 2017 Rotterdam hosted the annual National Walking Congress. We were asked to arrange a session about walking for all ages. The result was an inspiring walk in Rotterdam through the lens of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Too many cities are planned by and for young professionals. This session, organized together with Bureau Feld’s Naomi Felder, was set to look at cities from different angles. How can we create public space that welcomes different groups of people to walk and move? What are the obstacles of different groups to access public space? And what do we overlook when planning cities?

We shared with experts and decision makers our insights for inclusive urban planning. Using a variety of instruments, we took a walk in Rotterdam and experienced the city through the eyes of different age groups.
